HIGATANGAN ISLAND

After our trip to the Carnaza Island  we passed by Higatangan Island. Higatangan which is part of the municipality of Naval in Biliran province is situated at the northern tip of the island of Leyte. It is in fact closer to the mainland of Leyte than to Biliran island.  It is famous for its sand bar which is at the main barangay of Higatangan. There are a number of resorts that have sprung up in the island like the Hagdan Beach Resort and Higatangan Cliff Jump which are found on the western part of the island. The island already has a cemented circumferential road. But travel is mostly by habal-habal or tricycle.

CARNAZA ISLAND OF DAANBANTAYAN

The island of Carnaza is the northernmost island of the province of Cebu. It belongs to the municipality of Daanbantayan. It is still north of the famous Malapasqua island and is west of the northern tip of the island of Leyte. Got the chance to visit the island when I was invited by a former seminarian whom I helped in his schooling to go along with his catering staff for an outing as an advance celebration of my birthday.  I was billeted the night before at the Ocean Pearl Island Resort in Tabango, Leyte and we left on a rented boat early morning from Tabango the following day. The boat trip was more than two hours. We docked at the main port of the barangay of Carnaza which was at the southwest part of the island, and we had to take some habal-habal in order to get to the north eastern side of the island where the Carnaza Eco Park was situated for the accommodations. The boat could not dock there since there were strong waves on that side that day.  Aside from the standard rooms there twenty wooden tents lined along the beach.

There are several coves around the island with white sand beaches and very clear waters.  There were corals and sea grasses near the Eco Park.  When I was snorkeling there I even saw a baby white tip shark.   On the north western tip of the island in one cove near the Sitio Liog-liog there were also wooden tents lined on the shore with a beautiful white sand beach.

This is sitio Liog-liog on the northern tip of the island.

On my left shoulder could be seen the another cove with a white sand beach. There were also  wooden tents for accommodation.

These are the woodshed lined on the beach.

With very clear waters, I could not let the opportunity slip without getting into the water.

Another small cove with crystal clear waters.

A group photo before departing.

A sudden storm came in the afternoon which left some of the wood tents destroyed.
