THE PINK SAND OF STA. CRUZ ISLAND, ZAMBOANGA CITY

After attending the reconsecration of the Cathedral of Jolo, which was restored after being bombed, I had a one-day layover in Zamboanga. I requested a paisano priest who was the Oeconomus of the archdiocese if I could go to Sta. Cruz Island, that famous pink beach of the city. Together with me were the relatives of the Apostolic Administrator of Jolo who also wanted to visit the island. Because of the peace and order situation, the island is not easily accessible unless one gets permission from the authorities.  The priest was able to contact the coast guard of the city, and we were able to use their speed boat, along with some military personnel who accompanied us for security.

The food prepared ready for the boodle fight.

This is the red coral found in the island that makes the sand pink.
