BATAG ISLAND, LAOANG, NORTHERN SAMAR

Batag Island is located at the northeastern tip of the island of Samar.  It belongs to the town of Laoang, Nothern Samar. It has a historic lighthouse which lead ships to the entrance of San Bernardino Strait. Together with the lighthouse in Capul Island, these stations are invaluable to vessels coming from the Pacific Ocean entering the country through the San Bernardino strait on their way to Manila. For the locals, Batag island is a popular destination for pilgrimage to the chapel in Brgy. Napotiocan or just popularly called Salvacion as it houses the image of Our Lady of Salvacion.

When I visited the town of Palapag, I was told that the island of Batag was not far and that boats can be rented to bring us there. Hence, I wasted no time in visiting the island to visit the Shrine and the lighthouse. Aside from going to the lighthouse, we also toured around the island visiting the chapels there.
