CHURCHES AND OTHER SIGHTS IN THE DIOCESE OF IPIL, ZAMBOANGA SIBUGAY

Got to visit Ipil, Zamboanga Sibugay twice already. The first was during the episcopal ordination of Bp. Jose Rapadas III in 2019 and the second in April 2022 when our UST-ALPA seminarian coordinator got ordained to the priesthood.  During my second visit, I was able to go to some parishes and see some sights in the area. Attending the thanksgiving mass of Fr. Rollen in his home parish in Buayan, Kabasalan we were treated to a tour of the mangrove reforestation in Concepcion, Kabasalan which won for the founder Ka Dudoy the Ramon Magsaysay awardee for 2021. We were also able to go for an outing to Buluan island which is a popular beach destination in Ipil.

A tour with the 2021 Ramon Magsaysay awardee Roberto "Ka Dudoy" Ballon who helped improve the life of the fishermen by planting mangroves along the coast of Concepcion in Kabasalan, Zamboanga Sibugay. He started the Kapunungan sa Gagmayng Mangingisda sa Concepcion (KGMC). From a small endeavor in 2015 the project has expanded to 500 hectares of mangrove reforestation which has improved a lot the life of the fishermen in the area.
