THE CHURCHES OF ILOCOS SUR

On our way back to Manila from a recent trip to Abra, we visited several parish churches in the towns of Ilocos Sur that lay along our route. We stopped at seven churches in the towns of Narvacan, San Esteban, Santiago, Candon, Santa Lucia, Santa Cruz, and Tagudin. Most of these churches were built centuries ago, with the oldest dating back to 1586. As a result, they are characterized by thick walls made of bricks and stones, reflecting the enduring architecture of that era. A touch of modernity in all the churches was the presence of “helicopter"  fans.
